Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein expands to theaters nationwide this weekend. How soon will you be able to stream the movie on Netflix?

Netflix, of course, is the studio behind del Toro’s hotly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic novel, which was originally published in 1818. Director James Whale’s version of Shelley’s tale starring Boris Karloff and Colin Clive became legendary after the film’s release in 1931, and eventually it caught the attention of del Toro while growing up in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Decades later, del Toro is finally fulfilling his lifelong dream of directing his own adaptation of Frankenstein, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival on Aug. 30.

Netflix’s logline for Frankenstein reads, “Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature (Jacob Elordi) to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

Rated R, Frankenstein also stars Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer and Christoph Waltz.

Luckily for del Toro and monster movie fans, Netflix is releasing the film in theaters for three weeks before it debuts on the streaming platform, so they can experience the film in its full theatrical glory.

Frankenstein began its theatrical run on Oct. 17 in New York and Los Angeles, and Friday, Oct. 24, marks the film’s debut in select theaters nationwide. While Netflix hasn’t announced the official number of theaters the film is playing in, the company created a website for viewers to find out if the film is playing in a theater in their area.

For viewers who want to wait to see the film on streaming, Netflix has announced that it will premiere at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 7.

For viewers who don’t subscribe to Netflix, the streaming platform offers an ad-based package for $7.99 per month for viewing on two supported devices and an ad-free package for $17.99 per month for two supported devices.

In addition, Netflix offers an ad-free package for $24.99 per month for four supported devices with 4K Ultra HD programming.

Netflix’s Release Of ‘Frankenstein’ For An Extended Run Marks A Rare Occasion For The Streamer

Typically, Netflix doesn’t stream its films in theaters, simply because the company is in the business of streaming.

In the past decade, however, as the company has risen to prominence during awards season, Netflix has been releasing certain films in theaters to qualify for film honors, including the Oscars.

For example, Guillermo del Toro’s acclaimed stop-motion film Pinocchio was released in theaters to qualify for the 2022 Academy Awards, and it was ultimately awarded a Best Animated Feature Oscar.

The release of Frankenstein in theaters, however, seems to be serving two purposes: to qualify for awards season honors and to meet fan demand.

The release of Frankenstein in theaters marks the second time in the past few months that Netflix is bringing one of its movies to fans in showhouses. In August, the streamer released a sing-along version of its enormously popular animated musical KPop Demon Hunters in 1,700 theaters (per Variety) for one weekend, and plans on bringing the film back to the big screen Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.

Frankenstein is new in select theaters nationwide and will begin streaming on Netflix on Nov. 7.

Crypto News 17 September 2025 | 18:00 Discover why BlockDAG’s upcoming Awakening Testnet launch makes it the best crypto to buy today as Story (IP) price jumps to $11.75 and Hyperliquid hits new highs. Recent crypto market numbers show strength but also some limits. The Story (IP) price jump has been sharp, fueled by big buybacks and speculation, yet critics point out that revenue still lags far behind its valuation. The Hyperliquid (HYPE) price looks solid around the mid-$50s after a new all-time high, but questions remain about sustainability once the hype around USDH proposals cools down. So the obvious question is: why chase coins that are either stretched thin or at risk of retracing when you could back a network that’s already proving itself on the ground? That’s where BlockDAG comes in. While other chains are stuck dealing with validator congestion or outages, BlockDAG’s upcoming Awakening Testnet will be stress-testing its EVM-compatible smart chain with real miners before listing. For anyone looking for the best crypto coin to buy, the choice between waiting on fixes or joining live progress feels like an easy one. BlockDAG: Smart Chain Running Before Launch Ethereum continues to wrestle with gas congestion, and Solana is still known for network freezes, yet BlockDAG is already showing a different picture. Its upcoming Awakening Testnet, set to launch on September 25, isn’t just a demo; it’s a live rollout where the chain’s base protocols are being stress-tested with miners connected globally. EVM compatibility is active, account abstraction is built in, and tools like updated vesting contracts and Stratum integration are already functional. Instead of waiting for fixes like other networks, BlockDAG is proving its infrastructure in real time. What makes this even more important is that the technology is operational before the coin even hits exchanges. That…
