Global music discovery platform launches its first nationwide competition in the Philippines — inviting fans, artists, and industry professionals to help uncover the next breakout star.

On any given night in the Philippines, someone is singing.

Fans, Bands & Dreamers: New Platform MyTalent Turns Music Fans into Talent Scouts

It might be a teenager recording a cover song in their bedroom, a band performing in a neighborhood bar, or a group of friends passing a microphone around a karaoke machine at a family gathering. In a country where music is woven into everyday life, these small performances often carry big dreams.

For generations of Filipino artists, the journey from local stage to global audience has depended on a mixture of talent, persistence, and a bit of luck.

A new music platform hopes to change that.

Ahead of its international launch this summer, MyTalent is beginning its global journey in the Philippines with a nationwide competition designed to discover emerging artists — while giving fans an unusually powerful role in the process.

Rather than relying solely on algorithms, streaming numbers, or industry gatekeepers, the platform invites listeners themselves to become part of the discovery process. Fans can follow artists, support their progress through competition rounds, and help amplify the voices they believe deserve to be heard.

In essence, MyTalent aims to turn passionate listeners into talent scouts.

For aspiring musicians across the Philippines, where singing is both a cultural tradition and a national pastime, the initiative could offer a new pathway toward international recognition.

A Country Where Music Is Part of Everyday Life

The Philippines has long been known as one of the world’s most musically expressive countries.

Across the archipelago, music is present everywhere — from church choirs and school performances to small venue gigs and viral social media covers. Karaoke, perhaps the most iconic symbol of Filipino music culture, transforms ordinary gatherings into impromptu concerts.

But beneath the casual joy of singing lies a deeply rooted musical tradition.

Filipino singers have gained global recognition for their vocal power, emotional delivery, and versatility across genres ranging from pop and rock to soul and R&B.

The country’s tradition of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) has produced generations of influential artists, bands, and songwriters who continue to shape the nation’s evolving music scene.

At the grassroots level, musicians build their careers through small venues, online communities, and word-of-mouth support from fans.

For the creators behind MyTalent, this environment made the Philippines a natural starting point.

“There is an incredible relationship with music in the Philippines,” Andre Myhren, involved in the launch explained.
“You see it everywhere — in cover bands, local venues, social media performances, and family gatherings. That kind of passion makes it the perfect place to begin.”

A Personal Connection to Filipino Audiences

For some people helping introduce MyTalent to the country, the Philippines is more than just a launch market.

Andre Myhren, a member of the band Metal Heads With Broken Hearts, spent time touring the country and performing alongside local artists.

Those experiences left a lasting impression.

“The welcome we received when we toured the Philippines was incredible,” Myhren recalled.

“Everywhere we played, the crowds were passionate, and the musicians we met were extremely talented.”

The enthusiasm of Filipino audiences stood out to him.

“The energy from the fans was unforgettable,” he said.
“People genuinely care about music there. They really support the artists performing.”

A Discovery Platform Built Around Community

The digital age has transformed how music is shared around the world.

Artists can now release songs globally with only a laptop and an internet connection. But with tens of thousands of new tracks uploaded to streaming platforms every day, visibility has become one of the biggest challenges facing emerging musicians.

MyTalent aims to address this problem by creating a structured discovery environment built around community engagement.

Artists submit performances — including original songs, covers, or live recordings — which are evaluated through multiple competition rounds. Industry professionals review the performances, while fans support their favorite artists and help expand their reach.

As artists advance through the competition stages, their visibility on the platform grows.

The format blends elements of traditional talent competitions with the accessibility of digital platforms, creating a space where both fans and industry figures can discover new voices.

Industry Support for a New Discovery Model

The concept has already attracted interest from music professionals.

Among them is Richard Brummond, a U.S.-based producer and sound engineer who spent part of his early career working at RadioStar Studios in California.

Brummond began at the studio as an intern before eventually becoming a full-time sound engineer and co-producer. During that time he worked under legendary producer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with artists such as Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Johnny Cash.

Brummond was later Grammy-nominated for work connected to a project involving rapper Lil Wayne, an experience that gave him insight into how professional recording and artist development operate at the highest level of the industry.

Having spent years inside recording studios, he believes the modern music landscape needs new ways to help talented artists stand out.

“Today there is so much music being released that even incredibly talented artists can get lost,” Brummond said.

He sees the community-driven model behind MyTalent as an encouraging development.

“This platform is built as a community where we help each other succeed,” he explained.
“It’s not just about competition — it’s about artists, fans, and industry professionals working together so great music can reach the audience it deserves.”

Artists on the Ground Welcome the Idea

Within the Philippines’ independent music scene, many artists share similar views.

Val Caroche, an experienced independent artist who has spent years performing across the local circuit, believes the biggest obstacle for many talented musicians is simply being discovered.

“Filipino musicians have incredible ability and passion,” Caroche said.
“The challenge has always been getting the opportunity for people outside your immediate circle to hear what you’re doing.”

For Caroche, the most interesting aspect of the platform is the role fans play in supporting artists from the earliest stages of their careers.

“What I like about this idea is that it allows fans to be part of the journey,” he explained.

“When listeners feel connected to an artist early on, the relationship becomes much stronger. That kind of support can make a real difference.”

Turning Fans into Talent Scouts

One of MyTalent’s most distinctive features is its reward system for supporters.

Fans who join the platform can earn points by following artists, sharing referral links, and participating in the community.

These points can later be exchanged for rewards such as cash, exclusive merchandise, early access to new music releases, invitations to competition events, and sponsor-backed prizes.

The system encourages fans to support artists long before they achieve mainstream recognition.

In effect, supporters become early talent scouts — helping discover the musicians who may become tomorrow’s stars.

A Stage for the Next Breakthrough

The Philippines competition will begin with a limited group of artists joining the platform’s early-access Backstage program ahead of the global launch scheduled for June 1.

From that first group of musicians will come the platform’s earliest discoveries.

And somewhere among them may be the next voice waiting to break through.

Because in a country where music echoes through homes, streets, and karaoke rooms every night, talent is never far away.

Sometimes it simply needs the right stage.

And a few fans who believed in the music first.
