'Political theater': Trump ripped for inviting Erika Kirk to SOTU

MAGA activist Erika Kirk, who is heading Turning Point USA following the fatal shooting of her husband, Charlie Kirk in 2025, will, according to the New York Post, be attending President Donald Trump's 2026 State of the Union (SOTU) address as one of his guests. The address is set for this Tuesday night, February 24.

The Post notes, "White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt retweeted a Daily Wire story about the invitation, including the quote: 'The president will call on Congress to "firmly reject political violence against our fellow citizens" with Charlie Kirk’s widow in the chamber.'"

Erika Kirk's attendance at Trump's SOTU is generating a lot of comments on X, formerly Twitter.

The news drew positive reactions from some far-right MAGA Republicans, including Gunther Eagleman, who posted, "BREAKING: President Trump has OFFICIALLY invited Erika Kirk to the SOTU. Trump KNOWS Charlie moved MOUNTAINS fighting for a better America. Charlie was a BLESSING to America and everyone who calls this country home. GOD BLESS POTUS AND THE KIRKS!"

MAGA media figure Nick Sortor wrote, " JUST IN: President Trump has invited ERIKA KIRK to be his special guest at his State of the Union address tonight, per Daily Wire’s @MaryMargOlohan. Trump has stuck by Erika since Charlie’s kiIIing, and even presented her with a Presidential Medal of Freedom for Charlie on her late husband’s birthday last year."

Other X users, however, had negative reactions to the news.

Allen Insights' Brian Allen tweeted, "BREAKING: Erika Kirk will attend the State of the Union as a special guest of Donald Trump. So let's be clear: While Epstein files are missing. While survivors' records vanished. While real accountability is being buried. He's staging political theater with handpicked guests."

Progressive X user Cathy Adams posted, "That's because Erika Kirk is carrying on her husband's business of 'indoctrinating youth' for Trump's neo-nazi cult of magats."

New York Democrat Roseann Cannon posted, "Grifters flock together. @realDonaldTrump @MrsErikaKirk."
