Jett Nisay, endorser of Marcos impeach complaint, is a public works contractor

Jernie Jett Nisay, the congressman who endorsed the first impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is a contractor himself.

Nisay owns JVN Construction and Trading, which has been registered with the Department of Trade and Industry since January 2022. It is based in Central Luzon.

A quick search of the Department of Public Works and Highways database shows the company has won P73 million in public works projects in 2021 and 2022, before Nisay was elected congressman.

All three projects are with the Bataan 2nd District Engineering Office.

In November last year, Nisay was among the eight lawmakers whose names were referred by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure and the DPWH to the Office of the Ombudsman for the filing of plunder and graft charges.

Nisay was part of the majority in his fresh term in Congress, representing Pusong Pinoy, a party-list group based in Bataan. Its statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) filed with the Commission on Elections in 2022 declared P7.5 million in contributions, including P3 million from Nisay himself.

Nisay was a member of 11 committees in the 19th Congress, including two of which he was the vice chair, namely agriculture and sports, and youth and sports development.

In his sophomore term, Nisay moved to the minority and is currently serving as deputy minority leader for the 20th Congress. The position gives him ex-officio membership to and voting powers in all committees.

In the 19th Congress, Nisay was among the 215 lawmakers who signed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The impeachment complaint against Marcos that was endorsed by Nisay on Monday, January 19, alleges graft and corruption, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust, according to ABS-CBN News.

The timing of the complaint is backdropped by the flood control corruption scandal, the biggest controversy faced by President Marcos. – Rappler.com
