MANILA, Philippines – MovePH, the civic engagement arm of Rappler, was given the “Alab ng Paglilingkuran” Award by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Laguna during their partners’ recognition event last December 16.
This award was conferred in recognition of MovePH’s “steadfast commitment and exemplary contributions to the successful implementation” of civic empowerment programs in the province, especially in partnership with DILG Laguna.
Among the programs noted by DILG Laguna is Rappler’s #ScamAlert campaign, which aims to empower Filipinos with the information they need to protect themselves against digital fraud and attacks.
Earlier this year, MovePH made a roadshow stop in Laguna, where it held a public forum and series of workshops attended by over 110 senior citizens, students, and other Lagunense to improve scam resilience.
The forum and workshops tackled how people can identify scams and better protect themselves against these. The Laguna roadshow stop was done in partnership with DILG Laguna, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, University of the Philippines Los Banos College of Development Communication, and information integrity coalition #FactsFirstPH.
Other programs noted by DILG Laguna are the Barangay Readiness Enhance and Development Interventions or B-READI, Rappler’s community chat event on disaster preparedness, and DILG Laguna Halalan 360.
“Through responsible journalism, innovative public engagement, and advocacy for informed citizenry, your partnership has strengthened public awareness, promoted transparency, and supported democratic participation. May this recognition further inspire your continued service in advancing good local governance and empowering communities across the province,” DILG Laguna told Rappler about the award.
Aside from Rappler, DILG Laguna recognized four other organizations during their event, namely Makesense Asia (Gabay Pag-unlad awardee), HMR Envirocycle Philippines, Inc. (Gabay Luntiang Laguna awardee), Gardenia Bakeries Philippines, Inc. (Gawad Luntiang Laguna awardee), and Local Economic Development and Promotions Office Provincial Government of Laguna (Special Award). – Rappler.com
