Trump admin official should 'start worrying' as they could be ousted next: analysis

A member of Donald Trump's administration should brace to lose their job, according to a political analyst.

Trump has cleaned out his team in recent weeks, firing both Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi in quick succession. Whether a third major personnel change is made so soon after the two firings is yet to be seen, but one admin official may be an obvious choice for Trump.

Analysis from Bernard Goldberg, writing in The Hill, suggested Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, could be the next admin head removed from the team.

Goldberg wrote, "Now it is time for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — another good-looking Trump favorite, who praised the president every chance he got on Fox News — to start worrying. Hegseth was gung-ho about starting the war Trump wanted.

"But now, a leak from inside the administration has made its way into print, saying Hegseth was 'caught off guard' by the intensity of Iran’s response to the war. That may turn out to be nothing. But if — for whatever reason — things go south with Iran, who do you think is going to get the blame? It won’t be Trump."

The reason for Hegseth's potential firing will be the same reason given for Noem and Bondi's removal from post, Goldberg claims. Citing Noem's time at the DHS as a comparison, Goldberg suggested that loyalty means nothing if Trump's request begins to sour in public.

"Did the president want Noem to deploy ICE agents to Minneapolis to go after targets in a state run by progressives who loathe Trump? Sure," Goldberg wrote. "But what ICE was doing looked bad on television.

"That is never a good thing with Trump, who cares very much about how things look on television. Then Noem called two Americans who were shot and killed by ICE agents 'domestic terrorists,' infuriating even a lot of conservatives. That was apparently too much for the president."
