Bitcoin-friendly senator Cynthia Lummis will not seek reelection

Senator Cynthia Lummis, one of the most Bitcoin-friendly lawmakers in the US, has said she will not run for reelection in 2026.

In a statement posted on X Friday, Lummis said she didn’t have the energy to keep going as a Republican legislator for the state of Wyoming.

But Lummis added that she hoped to continue bringing “important legislation” to President Trump’s desk.

“In the difficult, exhausting session weeks this fall I’ve come to accept that I do not have six more years in me,” Lummis wrote. “I am a devout legislator, but I feel like a sprinter in a marathon.”

She continued: “I am honored to have earned the support of President Trump and to have the opportunity to work side by side with him to fight for the people of Wyoming.”

Conservative Lummis earned the name “Bitcoin Senator” over the years for her pro-crypto approach on Capitol Hill.

The 71-year-old senator — who has admitted owning the leading cryptocurrency since 2013 — sponsored the Bitcoin Act for a Bitcoin strategic reserve, and was co-sponsor of the 2025’s GENIUS Act to regulate stablecoins.

This year, Lummis also introduced legislation for a tax exemption on small Bitcoin transactions.

Trump ally Lummis has described the president’s approach to crypto as “transformational” and “forward thinking.”

President Trump campaigned to help the digital asset space and has signed pro-crypto legislation since entering the White House in January.

While both gold and the S&P 500 are in price discovery, BTC/USD has coiled throughout September after setting new highs of its own the month prior. Even at “just” 8%, however, this September’s performance is currently enough to make it Bitcoin’s strongest in 13 years. The only time that the ninth month of the year was more profitable for Bitcoin bulls was in 2012, when BTC/USD gained about 19.8%. Last year, upside topped out at 7.3%. BTC/USD monthly returns.
