Bitcoin’s price dropped sharply before Christmas 2025, despite the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting cooler-than-expected Consumer Price Index data, demonstrating market volatility amid institutional movements.

Institutional and ETF outflows dominated the market dynamics, revealing contrasts between immediate sell-offs and long-term holding strategies, impacting correlated assets like Ethereum significantly.

Section 1

Bitcoin experienced a notable downturn prior to Christmas, despite lower-than-expected CPI data indicating a strong economic backdrop. The robust CPI figures had initially reinforced hopes for further rate cuts.

This macroeconomic backdrop failed to prevent a sell-off in Bitcoin, despite normally supportive conditions. The cryptocurrency market, especially Bitcoin and Ethereum, experienced notable price declines.

“What we are witnessing is a cleansing correction, as liquidity tightening is met with overextended positions in the crypto markets.”

Section 2

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a headline CPI of 2.7% YoY, below projections. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve announced a 25 bps rate cut to further stimulate the economy.

The financial markets reacted with a risk-off move, as investors rebalanced away from cryptocurrencies. The BTC correction was about 17%, aligning with macro factors impacting market dynamics.

Section 3

Spot BTC ETFs saw outflows above $195 million, signaling institutional shifts. Long-term holders moved coins off exchanges as part of a strategic accumulation through volatility periods.

The historical pattern of crypto corrections post-Fed pivots suggests a period of volatility and institutional rebalancing. This reinforces the connection between macro trends and market responses in the cryptocurrency sector.

In the long run, Bitcoin’s scarcity and value proposition remain intact, regardless of short-term volatility caused by macroeconomic events.
