ADNOC Brings Stablecoin Payments to Everyday Retail

ADNOC Distribution, the UAE’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, will begin accepting AE Coin stablecoin payments across nearly 980 service stations in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

The move follows a partnership with Al Maryah Community Bank, enabling customers to pay using AE Coin via the AEC Wallet at fuel pumps, Oasis by ADNOC convenience stores, and car wash services.

What Is AE Coin?

AE Coin is the first stablecoin licensed by the UAE Central Bank and is backed 1:1 with the dirham, making it suitable for regulated, everyday transactions rather than speculation.

Why This Matters

By integrating stablecoin payments at scale, ADNOC is pushing crypto beyond online use cases and into real world retail. The rollout shows how regulated stablecoins can function within existing financial systems while offering faster and more flexible digital payments.

Bottom Line

ADNOC’s adoption of AE Coin marks a major step for stablecoin usage in the Middle East, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in regulated crypto innovation and real world blockchain adoption.

ZachXBT, known for his diligent on-chain investigations, was quick to flag the development. He brought attention to the fact that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce had directly addressed the OpenVPP partnership claim. Her response, delivered within hours, was unequivocal and starkly contradicted OpenVPP’s narrative. How Did Regulatory Authorities Respond to the OpenVPP Partnership Claim? Commissioner Hester Peirce’s statement was a crucial turning point in this unfolding story. She clearly stated that the SEC, as an agency, does not engage in partnerships with private cryptocurrency projects. This response effectively dismantled the credibility of OpenVPP’s initial announcement regarding their supposed government collaboration. Peirce’s swift clarification underscores a fundamental principle of regulatory bodies: maintaining impartiality and avoiding endorsements of private entities.
